You may end up a mature single when you are at an age where you are more experienced than most with dating, and if you have been separated from someone else recently. With your new found freedom and experienced gained after too much time in a single relationship, dating should be much easier to do instead of being a source of insecurity and inconvenience. Discovering new things in the dating world can be better with age.
Taking a step into the playing field comes before getting started with the game, though. As you may be older than most in the dating circuit, you may feel rather put off from trying your chances with people of your age, let along the younger generation. This can a normal feeling, but overcoming this will be your key to success when dating. You should be emboldened by your maturity rather than thinking of it as a disadvantage, after all.
Your Maturity, and Finding a Date
Becoming a mature dater may come with age, or experience if you are a younger dater who happens to be around the dating kind a lot. Mature singles can just as easily become a term for daters who are of older age, however, but you should not be put off from seeing other people just because you feel you are too old to do so.
Getting older also means you get all of this experience, which should make your time spent finding a date much easier instead of harder. You may find it much easier yourself when you do decide to find a date:
- With more maturity, experience, and knowledge, you should be able to know where to find a date if you are looking with one. Bars, clubs, or popular hangouts where people your age frequent should all be part of your stock knowledge.
- The physical appearance of a person becomes secondary to personality as you get more experienced. Uncovering who a person truly is underneath the skin can mean that you will end up with a much more fun and fulfilling date experience.
- Mature daters will also have a clearer picture of the kind of girl they would like to date based on interests and hobbies. To quote the movie High Fidelity, “It's not what you're like, it's what you like.”
- If your age puts you off from going out there and finding a date, then don't forget about what the internet can provide for you. There are now online dating services that cater to specific age groups, mature daters and senior citizens included.
Age and looks aside, being a more mature dater should unlock more possibilities instead of being an obstacle that stands between you and your ability to go out dating.
Roughing It Up
Of course, things can be completely different when you are actually out on a date. Going back to your maturity, you should be more confident and sure about what you want out of a date. Because you know what you want, you should know how to get it, whether it's just a one night stand or a shot at marriage.
- You might be out dating because you are looking to replace a void left by an ex or recently deceased spouse. This is a perfectly valid reason to try out mature dating, but don't let it be known too much; using a date as a dumping ground for your emotional baggage can do more harm than good.
- Pace is the trick with any date. Mature daters who have been through a lot in the past can just as easily feel more sensitive or hurt because of traumatic experiences. Jumping back into the dating world after a long period of stagnation may mean you have to take baby steps instead of running a marathon.
- Your future expectations can make just as big a difference as your experiences in the past. Replacing a former ex, a lost spouse, or simply trying to relieve stress through dating can be perceived in different ways by less-mature daters, so don't dwell on the future too much either.
- Being of an older age than your date can pose it's own problems. The solution to this is to not think of your age as a problem, but a benefit instead; you should be wiser, more knowledgeable and mature than ever.
- Mature dating can also extend to those with children. Dealing with children while you are single can be a challenge on it's own, especially if both daters have children to take care of. You may need to present yourselves as worthy family members who will fit in, rather than two singles mingling for the fun of it, even more so if both of you have serious intentions with each other.
- You may also know by now that you have to treat a date with courtesy and respect, but that does not mean you should turn into a doormat. A date who will continue to truly love you for the many dates to come should also respect your own sensibilities and limitations no matter what.
Remember that while being an older dater can present unique challenges, they can be overcome with a little persistence and dedication. Your desire not to be lonely at your age, or simply to get some action for the night, can be accomplished simply because you are a more mature single than ever before.
